Started in 1995 during the siege, the Sarajevo Film Festival now brings an international programme with a particular focus on South-East European cinema. Choose the films you want to see, then check screening venues, languages and subtitles. Confirm dates and tickets directly with the festival before building the rest of the trip around it.
A city evening at MESS
Sarajevo’s MESS theatre festival dates to 1960. It is a different reason to explore the city after a day in the streets and museums. Read the programme for the performance language, running time and venue rather than assuming every show works equally well for every visitor.
Music in Mostar
Mostar Summer Fest offers a music-led reason to include Mostar, but the festival site is not the Old Bridge. The organiser named SC Kantarevac for its 2026 edition. For a future visit, confirm the announced venue and dates, and keep the old town as a separate part of your day.
Smaller celebrations need a local calendar
Zenica’s Čimburijada marks the arrival of spring with gatherings centred on preparing čimbur. Community occasions like this are a different experience from a ticketed concert. Check the current local programme and respect the difference between a public celebration and a private family gathering.
